For the love of The Sims: 2014

Demo Day has arrived!

I found out this evening that EA did actually release the Sims 4 CAS Demo to everyone today.
Oddly enough, I have been reinstalling on my new SSD, so I've had Origin open, installing Sims throughout the day, but didn't have the Demo in my available downloads.
Someone posted a link to Origin's webpage and bingo, there it was.
So now it's downloaded and installed. I did peek in and made a Sim, just to get a feel for it. Still, it's not swaying me to buy Sims 4. The lack of colorwheel/sliders etc. just doesn't fit with my style in a Life Simulator game. So well, I'm gonna enjoy my Sims 3 and look forward to Sims 5 - for now :).

That was not the most pleasant thing to end the day on...

I was toodling around the net, looking at info about everything Sims, looking at pictures for use on the blog at some point and then I stumbled over a comment made on another blog that really made me frown. Here it is, copied directly:

"Okay. I'm probably breaking my NDA, but I don't care, it needs to be said. I was a tester on Sims 4, and I can absolutely guarantee 100% that toddlers/pools/night life is going to be added later. As paid dlc. I've read the design docs, it's absolutely disgusting, and it was the final nail in the coffin against EA for me (but I'll still buy Mass Effect Not 4 god damn it.) The game has had major MAJOR redesigns more than 10 times since it began, and it is purely the poor time management of EA's design process that resulted in features being cut left and right. The lots are smaller, there's less items, less interactions, fewer ways to dye, fewer things you can do with other Sims, and the one good, promising feature, an always-online social aspect (which actually was originally the entire focus of the game, before Sim City came around and absolutely forced a radical redesign/feature cut) was cut following EA's disastrous handling of Sim City. Trust me, Sims 3 is just better, in just about every single way. And it's disgusting. The problem with EA is that they are just too much of a hulking, terribly managed mess to come out with anything good - and the cost of making games in that global-studio fashion means that more and more they're absolutely focusing on paid dlc. It's really gross. Don't buy EA. They're bad for gaming."

If you want to see it for yourself, it's found here: http://kotaku.com/the-sims-4-without-toddlers-looks-weird-1617104040/all - Scroll down to the comment from "thebigyellowhat" to "Nathan Grayson".
I have to point out that I am not sure if it's true or if it's just someone trying to rile people up.
I really wanted to post about this in the FB groups, but I don't feel like being the cause of people getting into major arguments, we've seen enough of that in the past few months on the Sims 3 forums...

So people, what do you think?
Is he speaking truth or is he just riling players up?
Comment, discuss, let me know what you think.

It's not The End!

I've started this blog today and I wanna begin it by saying a few words.

Sims 4 is almost upon us and with that, a whole lot of chaos has ensued in the simming community.
Some people are thrilled with the new looks, the new mechanics, the new "emotions", everything.
Others are not so much, quite the opposite.

Personally, I've been a part of the fantastic Sims 3 community for years now and to me, most of my friends there are like an extended family that I have never met. With some, I've shared good and bad times, with others, I've shared ideas and creations, but with almost all of my simming friends I have shared the love of a game. A game, that despite buggyness, flaws and hair-pullingly frustrating moments have given us all lots of joy and laughs over the years.

My favorite iteration has been Sims 3, because of the fantastic (albeit somewhat broken) tools that it gave us to play with. Once I really got into building, it was a sealed deal, Sims 3 is always gonna be my favorite waste of time. As far as moving into Sims 4, I doubt very much that I will. There's still too many things I need to try, need to do and need to see in Sims 3.
A big question for me right now is; will we get to keep the forums or are they going to be put down after a while? I have no idea, but I am pretty sure that at some point, EA are gonna close the Sims 3 forums down. So to keep up with all the friends I have made, the fantastic creators and their creations, I have joined a few groups on Facebook.
The groups I have joined are these (so far):

https://www.facebook.com/groups/320785188086835/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/Sims3Group/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/174247142770921/

I hope to see as many of you there are possible. Or around on other Sims related blogs, where I will follow (if there's a follow button!).

I know that for many this feels like The End. But it's not. We don't HAVE to lose touch, we don't HAVE to stop playing Sims, Sims 2 or Sims 3, we don't HAVE to jump on the Sims 4 bandwagon and abandon the love we have for the Sims iterations that are already out there.
The choice is ours, it's yours and mine. I chose to stay with my Sims 3, with my friends from there.
This blog will be where I will continue to share, laugh, be amazed and vent - all about The Sims!
